The Classic Returns: DOOM and DOOM II Repackaged with a Modern Twist
Do you have room for more DOOM?
Get ready to relive the glory days of first-person shooters because DOOM and DOOM II are back with a bang!
A shiny new bundle of these classic games has popped up on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, Switch’s eShop (just in the US for now), PlayStation Store for PS4 and PS5, and the Microsoft Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
It’s priced at just $9.99 USD (about £8), so it’s a steal.
This bundle packs the "definitive" versions of both games, and it’s not just a simple re-release. Here’s what you get:
- DOOM (1993) and DOOM II (1994)
- TNT: Evilution and The Plutonia Experiment (two fan expansions rolled into Final DOOM)
- Master Levels for DOOM II
- No Rest for the Living
- Sigil (John Romero’s unofficial fifth episode)
- Legacy of Rust (a brand-new episode made by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames)
- A new Deathmatch map pack with 25 maps
That’s a whopping 187 mission maps and 43 deathmatch maps for you to tackle.
The new versions also come with upgraded graphics, modern controller support, cross-platform deathmatch and co-op for up to 16 players, and a mod browser to dive into community-created content.
You can switch between the classic MIDI soundtracks or new versions by Andrew Hulshult and enjoy the improved performance with support for up to 4K resolution.
Word on the street is that if you already own DOOM 1 or DOOM 2, you might get upgraded to this new bundle for free. While id Software and Bethesda haven’t officially announced this yet, it’s all set to be a major highlight at QuakeCon, which is happening right now.
So, whether you’re a seasoned DOOM veteran or new to the demon-slaying action, this bundle is a fantastic way to dive back into the mayhem.
As for me, someone who already owns multiple versions of DOOM and DOOM II, you might be wondering if I'm going to buy it.
Hell yeah, I am.
